Newbie's Guide to Web Design

HTML Lesson 7

Body "Building" Con't

Ok last time we looked at bgcolor and font color today we will use horizontal lines and heading sizes. First open your last html page it should look like this:

<html>

<head>

</head>

<body bgcolor=lightblue textcolor=black>

<center>The Fishing Trip</center>

<p>

Johnny and I went out for a day of fishing and when we arrived at the lake we started out on the East Side. The lake was beautiful and Johnny was first to cast out, and just after he started to reel in his line WHAM! A fish took his bait WOW! What a fight, that fish was tearing through the water like a tornado, but Johnny was having no trouble holding on to his pole, finally he got the upper hand and was gaining ground reeling the fish in.

<p>

</body>

</html>

Now lets create a horizontal line above and below the paragraph. First type just below the body tag but above your paragraph <hr>. See that wasn't so hard now was it ok lets put a another horizontal line just below your paragraph, do the same as above but this time type <hr width=50>.

Now save and have a look at your page. You should have a page with a long line at top and a short line at bottom of your paragraph. Great you are doing really well at this, now lets put in a heading tag and see how the various tags allow you to create different size headings.

Below the second horizontal line tag enter this tag <h1>text here</h1> Then below that one type <h2>text here</h2>. Now save and reload your browser. See how the different numbers after the h create different size header, but you can only have up to the number 6 because after that the browser doesn't recognize it and defaults to regular text size, so remember to enter a number from 1 – 6 when creating a Header.

In the next lesson we will learn tables. Lesson 8 Working with Tables.
